ECHOCARDIOGRAPHIC PROFILE AMONG PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS

Background
Cardiac abnormality is one of clinical manifestations found in HIV/AIDS. Having cardiac illness brings poor prognosis to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Study of Cardiac abnormalities among people living with HIV/AIDS in Indonesia rarely found.

Objective
To study echocardiographic profile and prevalence of cardiac abnormalities among people living With HIV/AIDS

Methods
The study was a cross sectional study among people living with HIV/AIDS in outpatient clinic and Internal Medicine Ward in Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital Jakarta.

Result
During July October 2008, 100 eligible subjects participated in this study.
The age range from 22 45 years old, 80% were male. Route of transmission IDU 65%, nalve subject 50%, subjects who had infected more than 5 years 69%. Echocardiographic abnormalities 81%. Profile of echocardiographic abnormalities diastolic dysfunction 56%, peri cardial effusion 15%, tricuspid regurgitation 14%, mitra regurgitation 14%, systolic dysfunction 11%, vegetation 11%, dilation of heart chambers 17%, left ventricle hypertrophy 4%, pulmonary hypertension 1%.

Conclusion
Echocardiographic profile found in this study is diastolic dysftinction 56%, peri cardial effusion 15%, tricuspid regurgitation 14%, mitra regurgitation 14%, systolic dysfinction 11%, vegetation 11%, dilation of heart chambers 17%, left ventricle hypertrophy 4%, pulmonary hypertension 1%.
